Referral website, not the contractor. How it works

A new garage door costs about $754 to $1,707 installed, with a national average of $1,231, according to Angi's 2026 figures drawn from 15,434 projects. The size of the opening and the material you pick decide most of the difference.

New garage door prices by garage size

Angi's 2026 price ranges per project, by garage configuration:

Garage Typical range Notes
One-car About $500 to $3,000 Angi says a standard single door is 7 to 10 feet wide and 7 to 8 feet tall
Two-car, one double door About $800 to $5,000 HomeAdvisor says a single wide door for a two-car garage runs 12 to 24 feet across
Two-car, two single doors About $1,200 to $4,900 Two installations, two sets of springs and track
Three-car, one double and one single About $1,400 to $7,000
Three-car, three single doors About $1,700 to $7,200

Measure before you call: the width and height of each opening, the headroom above the door, and the space beside it. Custom sizes cost more than standard ones regardless of material, Angi notes.

Prices by material, with Lubbock in mind

Material Angi 2026 range per door What to weigh on the South Plains
Steel About $650 to $3,200 The common choice; ask for the gauge, since a lower gauge number means thicker steel that resists hail dents better
Aluminum About $600 to $2,900 Light and rust-resistant, but Angi notes it dents more easily than steel
Wood About $900 to $4,500 Needs regular painting or staining; plan on that upkeep in strong sun and dry wind
Wood-look composite About $650 to $4,800 Angi says it won't rot, warp or crack like wood
Vinyl About $800 to $2,500 Angi describes it as resisting dents and rust
Fiberglass About $800 to $2,700 Angi describes it as resisting denting and cracking
Glass About $2,500 to $8,000 Large glass areas are a hail concern

Hail deserves a moment of thought. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center logged 419 hail reports in Lubbock County from 1996 through 2025, most in May and June (see the Lubbock County hail calendar). The hail-damaged garage door page covers what helps a door hold up.

Prices by door style

Style Angi 2026 range Where it fits

Roll-up About $600 to $3,000 Common on storefronts and storage units

Walk-through About $700 to $6,000 Adds a pedestrian door within the garage door

The rest of the bill

The door is only part of the quote. Angi's 2026 figures for the other line items:

Item Typical range
Installation labor, if listed separately About $200 to $500; about $350 average
Old door removal, if charged About $50 to $200 (many installers include it)
Repairs found when the old door comes out About $155 to $380
Going from a manual to an automatic door (adding an opener) About $200 to $1,300 more
Security features (keypads, smart locks, sensors, lights) About $200 to $1,200 or more
Insulated door instead of plain About $1,100 to $4,200 installed (see insulated garage doors)
Permit, where required About $40 to $120

Ask whether the quote includes new springs and track, weather seals, haul-away and any permit. Pricing and scheduling come from the company.

Lubbock-area budget items

Permits. The City of Lubbock says that when repairs "require replacement of a new unit," they fall under remodeling and require permitting. Garage doors aren't named, so ask the company whether it pulls a permit, or call Building Safety at 806-775-2087. Shallowater's building page says repair and alteration work needs a permit too. Wolfforth and Slaton have their own building departments.

Insurance after hail. If a storm damaged the door, check your policy before you buy. The Texas Department of Insurance notes that some policies use a percentage deductible, which can be more than the cost of one garage door. The hail-damaged garage door page walks through the claim.

Springs sized to the new door. A heavier insulated or wood-look door needs springs matched to its weight. Make sure the quote says so.

Ways to keep the price down

Angi's suggestions, plus one from the door industry:

  • Pick function over looks. A basic model in a standard size costs the least.
  • Limit extras. Windows, decorative hardware and custom finishes add up fast.
  • Choose the material carefully. Steel and aluminum are the least expensive, per Angi.
  • Get more than one written quote for the same door size, material and insulation.
  • Don't reuse the old track. DASMA's safety tips warn that old track may not fit a new door's section thickness, weight, headroom or opener location, and that the track and sections are designed as a system. It's a false saving.

Should you replace the door at all?

If only one or two sections are damaged and your model is still made, a garage door panel replacement may cost a fraction of a new door. For single-part failures like springs, cables or openers, the garage door repair cost guide has the numbers.

What to get in writing

  • The exact door model, material, steel gauge and insulation rating
  • Door size, and whether it's a stock or custom size
  • Whether new springs, track, seals and haul-away are included
  • Opener: kept, adjusted or replaced, and at what cost
  • Who pulls the permit, if one is needed
  • The manufacturer's and installer's coverage terms, in writing

Common questions

What is the average cost of replacing a 2-car garage door?

Angi's 2026 ranges are about $800 to $5,000 for a two-car garage with one double door, and about $1,200 to $4,900 with two single doors. Plain steel in a standard size lands near the low end; insulated, wood-look or custom doors push it up.

How much should I budget for a new garage door?

Angi's national average is about $1,231 per door, with most homeowners paying $754 to $1,707. Add an opener if you need one (Angi puts an installed opener at about $218 to $540) and leave room for repairs found when the old door comes out, which Angi puts at about $155 to $380.

Is one double door cheaper than two single doors?

Usually. Angi says choosing multiple single doors instead of one double door raises the cost, because each door needs its own installation work, springs and track.

Do I need a permit to replace a garage door in Lubbock?

Possibly. The City of Lubbock says repairs that become extensive or require replacing a unit fall under remodeling and require permitting; garage doors aren't named. Ask the company or call Lubbock Building Safety at 806-775-2087. Angi puts permit fees, where they apply, at about $40 to $120.

Can I put a new door on my old track to save money?

DASMA advises against it. Its safety tips say the old track may not fit the new door because of section thickness, door weight, headroom and opener location, and that the track and sections work together as a system.
